Reverse description The reverse, designed by John Bergdahl, depicts a jester's cap and bells resting atop a bauble-tipped marotte, or fool's stick, rendered in high relief against a polished field — emblematic of Shakespearean comedy. The jester's cap, adorned with multiple pointed prongs each tipped with a bell, is shown in dynamic, flowing detail, evoking the theatrical tradition of the Bard's comic works. A Tudor rose ornament appears at the base of the outer ring, flanking the date '2016' inscribed below in the gold-coloured outer band. The inscription 'WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE' arcs around the upper portion of the coin within the outer ring, and the engraver's initials 'JB' appear discreetly in the lower field of the inner silver zone.
