Additional information

Issued to mark the July 1981 marriage of Charles and Diana, this Jersey gold proof was produced during a period when the island's treasury was aggressively expanding its commemorative program — royal events being reliably profitable in the Crown Dependency collector market. Jersey had no obligation to issue circulating coinage for the occasion; this piece existed purely as a revenue instrument for the philatelic and numismatic bureau.

The .9167 fineness places it at the traditional 22-carat standard, matching sovereign coinage lineage. KM#52b distinguishes the gold proof from the silver and cupro-nickel variants struck in the same program.
