Gibraltar's Royal Arms issues have been a recurring vehicle for the territory's gold bullion program, which runs parallel to — but is legally distinct from — British Royal Mint output. The Arms depicted are those granted specifically to Gibraltar, not the full Royal Arms of England, a distinction the catalog title blurs.
The .9999 fineness places this strike in the post-2013 generation of Gibraltar gold, when the territory's issuing authority moved away from the .917 standard it had long shared with traditional British sovereign-weight coinage.
