Reverse description The official badge of the Royal Air Force occupies the central field, depicting an eagle with wings outstretched in flight, superimposed upon a roundel formed by a circular band bearing the motto PER ARDUA · AD ASTRA. Above the roundel, a St. Edward's Crown is shown in high relief, and below the eagle a sprig of laurel is visible. The engraver's initials RM appear at lower left of the inner field. The commemorative legend THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE arcs around the outer border, with the centenary dates 1918 - 2018 displayed in the lower exergue, all rendered against a polished proof field with a contrasting gold-toned outer ring.
