Issued by the Pobjoy Mint on behalf of the Isle of Man to mark the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Force, founded 1 April 1918 as the world's first independent air service — split from the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service at a moment when the British government had concluded that air power required its own command structure rather than subordination to army or naval priorities.
