Additional information

The British Antarctic Territory, a UK Overseas Territory administered from the Falkland Islands, issues its own coinage despite having no permanent civilian population — its only residents are rotating scientific staff at Rothera and Halley research stations. Scott reached the South Pole on 17 January 1912, only to find Roald Amundsen had beaten him by 33 days. He and his four companions died on the return journey, with the last diary entry dated 29 March 1912.

The search party found Scott's tent just eleven miles short of a supply depot.
