Aanvullende informatie

Alderney — the smallest of the inhabited Channel Islands — gained the right to issue its own commemorative coinage only in 1989, making this piedfort among the very first coins struck under that authority. The Queen Mother's 90th birthday provided the occasion for one of the earliest exercises of that new privilege.

Piedforts of this issue were struck at double the standard planchet thickness, a French minting tradition revived by the Royal Mint in the 1980s primarily for collector sets.
