| 正面描述 | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a tiara and pearl necklace, after the third definitive portrait by Raphael David Maklouf. The surrounding legend reads QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND along the upper periphery, with the date 1990 positioned in the lower field below the truncation. The design is executed in high relief against a polished proof field, with the engraver's initials RDM visible at the truncation. |

Alderney — the smallest of the inhabited Channel Islands — had only recently been granted the right to issue its own coinage when this piece was struck, making the 1990 Queen Mother commemorative one of the earliest coins issued under that authority. The island's coinage program was administered through the Royal Mint, which struck this proof in 22-carat gold to a relatively generous specification for a commemorative of the period.
The Queen Mother turned 90 on August 4, 1990. Mintage for the gold proof was tightly controlled.
