The inner silver field renders, in crisp proof relief, the sweeping wrought-iron arched ribs and decorative spandrels of the station's celebrated train shed roof, viewed from below and extending diagonally across the field to evoke the grandeur of Victorian engineering. The word BRUNEL appears in bold serif lettering within the arch of the inner disc, with the engraver's initials r.e. (Robert Evans) discreetly placed to the lower right. The date 2006 is inscribed on the upper left of the gold-coloured outer ring, while the denomination TWO POUNDS arcs along the lower outer ring in raised capital letters. |
