| 背面描述 | The reverse depicts the young protagonist Philip Pirrip (Pip) from Charles Dickens's novel Great Expectations, rendered in detailed relief. Pip is shown as a young boy beside a tombstone inscribed PHILLIP Pirrip, evoking the novel's celebrated opening churchyard scene, with a dark atmospheric background suggesting the marshes. The circular legend ASK NO QUESTIONS, AND YOU'LL BE TOLD NO LIES arcs around the upper periphery, while GREAT EXPECTATIONS curves along the lower border within the outer bimetallic ring. |

Issued as part of Jersey's ongoing literary commemorative program, this piece marks the 160th anniversary of the 1860 publication of Charles Dickens's Great Expectations, which first appeared in weekly installments in Dickens's own journal All the Year Round. Dickens reportedly wrote the novel at a furious pace to rescue the journal's flagging circulation after a serial by Charles Lever proved unpopular with readers.
