| Description du revers | The central field displays a quartered heraldic shield of the Royal Arms, surmounted by the Imperial State Crown, evoking the design tradition of the historic golden guinea. The four quarters bear the three passant guardant lions of England (quarters one and four), the lion rampant of Scotland (quarter two), and the harp of Ireland (quarter three), with the fleurs-de-lis of France occupying the upper dexter quarter in the manner of the Stuart and early Hanoverian coinage. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the gold-toned outer rim carrying the legend ANNIVERSARY·OF·THE·GOLDEN·GUINEA around the upper arc and ·2013· along the lower arc, designed by Anthony Smith. |

The Golden Guinea series revisited a denomination struck originally in 1663 under Charles II — the first machine-milled gold guinea, produced at a time when the Royal Mint was under pressure to modernize after centuries of hand-hammered coinage. The 2013 silver piedfort format doubles the standard planchet thickness, a practice the Royal Mint revived in the 1980s as a collector proposition rather than a circulation strategy.
