Obverse description Fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing diademed and draped bust occupying the central field. The portrait is rendered with fine detail, the Queen wearing a tiara and with softly modelled hair. A beaded inner border separates the effigy from the surrounding legend. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the truncation. The circular Latin legend reads ELIZABETH·II·DEI·GRA·REG·FID·DEF around the periphery.

Reverse description The reverse, designed by Matthew Bonaccorsi, depicts a stylised map of England set against a dynamic composition of two flowing, ribbon-like banners that frame the central design. A circular enamelled roundel to the left displays the St George's Cross (the flag of England) in red and white. The denomination £2 appears to the right of the map in the field. The engraver's initials MB are visible at lower left. The surrounding gold-coloured legend reads XVII COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2002, with the date 2002 positioned at the base.
