| Reverse description | The Arms of the British Indian Ocean Territory occupy the central field, featuring a shield quartered with the Union Flag in the upper half and a palm tree above wavy lines representing the sea in the lower half. Two giant tortoises serve as supporters on either side of the shield, and a mural crown surmounted by a flagstaff and Union Flag forms the crest. A scroll below the arms bears the motto 'IN TUTELA NOSTRA LIMURIA'. The circular legend around the periphery reads 'FIRST COMMEMORATIVE COIN OF THE BRITISH INDIAN OCEAN TERRITORY', with the denomination 'PM £2' inscribed at the base.
