South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands — a British Overseas Territory with no permanent civilian population — issues commemorative coinage primarily as a revenue mechanism, with pieces never entering any local circulation economy. The Diamond Wedding issue marks sixty years of the Queen's marriage to Prince Philip, who held a particular connection to the territory through his role as a patron of the South Georgia Heritage Trust.
KM#38a is the silver proof variant; a cupro-nickel circulation strike was produced alongside it as KM#38.
