In the foreground, Allied infantry troops wade ashore through surf, armed with rifles, while a landing craft disgorges soldiers and materiel onto the beach. The middle ground features warships on the horizon and military vehicles advancing inland. The sky is populated with barrage balloons and Allied aircraft, including a Spitfire, in attack formation. The engraver's initials JS appear at lower left within the design, and the entire composition is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with the legend TWO POUNDS · D-DAY ANNIVERSARY · ALDERNEY arranged around the periphery. |
