Alderney, the smallest of the three principal Channel Islands with a population under 2,500, gained the right to issue commemorative coinage in the late 1980s — a privilege that arrived just in time for a wave of royal anniversary issues. This 1993 piece marks the 40th anniversary of the Coronation, the same milestone that prompted a modest series of commemoratives across several Crown Dependencies simultaneously.
The Royal Mint struck these on behalf of Alderney. They saw no meaningful circulation.
