Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive portrait, depicting the Queen with a diadem and draped bust. The legend ELIZABETH·II·2013 arcs along the upper left periphery, while ASCENSION ISLAND follows the right rim. The portrait is rendered in fine detail with the Queen's characteristic curled coiffure and tiara visible in high relief against a flat field.

The curved legend GRANTING OF ASCENSION ISLAND COAT OF ARMS arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination £2 appears in the lower field. A small PM mint mark is present at lower right of the central device.
