| Additional information |
Issued to mark the 350th anniversary of the execution of Charles I in 1649, this coin sits within a long tradition of British commemorative silver tied to Stuart-era anniversaries. Charles was tried before a specially convened High Court of Justice — a legal body with no established precedent — after Parliament declared it treasonous for a king to wage war against his own people. The verdict was never in serious doubt.
The Falkland Islands issued commemoratives prolifically through the 1990s under the Pobjoy Mint contract.
