| Obverse description | The obverse presents the third effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II facing right, depicting her wearing the George IV State Diadem, as designed by Raphael David Maklouf. The portrait is rendered in high relief appropriate to the proof finish, with fine detail in the diadem and facial features. The sovereign's name and royal titles appear in a continuous legend around the periphery of the field. The designer's initials RDM appear below the truncation of the portrait. The denomination TWO POUNDS is incorporated into the obverse legend, an unusual feature for British coinage of this period. |
