Obverse description The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing draped bust wearing a diamond diadem. The portrait is set within the copper-nickel inner disc, surrounded by a beaded border at the boundary with the nickel-brass outer ring. The Latin legend ELIZABETH·II·DEI·GRA·REG·FID·DEF arcs around the upper periphery of the outer ring, with the engraver's initials IRB visible below the truncation of the bust. The overall composition is typical of Rank-Broadley's refined, naturalistic portrait style used on British coinage from 1998 onward.
