| Obverse description | The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, rendered in high relief by Ian Rank-Broadley. The Queen is depicted crowned and draped, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend arcs around the upper and lower periphery of the coin, with the denomination and date also inscribed. The truncation of the bust bears the engraver's initials IRB. |

| Reverse description | The reverse, designed by Matthew Dent, presents a striking typographic portrait of the author Charles Dickens in left-facing profile. The silhouette of his head and shoulders is formed entirely from the titles of his literary works, rendered in varying fonts and sizes — including Oliver Twist, Bleak House, A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, David Copperfield, Dombey and Son, and many others — creating a mosaic-like effect within the figure's outline. The field to the left of the portrait is plain and polished, providing a strong contrast to the densely inscribed effigy. The inscriptions '1812' and '1870', denoting Dickens's birth and death years, flank the portrait along the left rim, with 'CHARLES DICKENS' arcing between them. The designer's initials MD appear discreetly within the lower right of the composition. |
