| Aversbeschreibung | Crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, rendered in the third definitive portrait by Raphael David Maklouf, with the sovereign wearing the George IV State Diadem. The truncation of the bust is draped, and the effigy is rendered in high relief against a flat field. The circular legend around the periphery reads ELIZABETH·II·DEI·GRATIA·REGINA·F·D, with the denomination TWO POUNDS also inscribed, separated by a central dot. The designer's initials RDM appear below the portrait. |

| Reversbeschreibung | A stylised dove of peace rendered in a bold, sculptural design by John Mills, shown in left profile with wings swept back and tail feathers fanned in angular, modernist style. The bird holds an olive branch in its beak, a classical symbol of peace, referencing the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. The composition fills the entire field, with the dove's body curving gracefully to occupy the circular flan, the wing and tail feathers depicted in a series of sharp, layered striations. The design is entirely devoid of inscription, allowing the symbolic imagery to dominate. |

Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Allied victory in 1945, this was only the third £2 coin produced for general circulation in the United Kingdom — a denomination that would not become a permanent fixture until the bimetallic redesign of 1997. The 1995 production run was substantial, but the coin saw relatively limited day-to-day use, which is why survivors in near-mint condition are common despite being a circulation issue.
The same year saw a companion VJ Day commemorative, giving 1995 two distinct £2 issues tied to the same anniversary commemorations.
