Two crossed olive or laurel branches flank the thistle symmetrically, their stems crossing behind the flower's stem within a lozenge-shaped outline formed by four angular devices. The date 1986 appears in the upper field above the thistle head, flanked by the branch tips. The engraver's initials N S (Norman Sillman) are incuse at the lower centre of the design. The field is otherwise plain, with a beaded border encircling the entire reverse. |
