(Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith)
Reverse description A large, centrally placed Scottish thistle in full bloom, rendered in bold relief, forms the principal device, commemorating the XIII Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh, Scotland. Two crossed olive or laurel branches flank the thistle symmetrically, their stems crossing behind the flower's stem within a lozenge-shaped outline formed by four angular devices. The date 1986 appears in the upper field above the thistle head, flanked by the branch tips. The engraver's initials N S (Norman Sillman) are incuse at the lower centre of the design. The field is otherwise plain, with a beaded border encircling the entire reverse.
