Jersey has issued Churchill commemoratives before — most notably the 1974 crown marking the centenary of his birth — but this piece anchors specifically on his literary career, which earned him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953, an award he valued more than most historians give him credit for. The Swedish Academy cited his "mastery of historical and biographical description" and "brilliant oratory." He was, at the time, a sitting head of government receiving a literary prize.
