| Additional information |
Churchill appeared on British coinage during his own lifetime — the 1965 crown issued the year of his death was, unusually, struck while the subject was still alive in the months of its design approval. This 2024 gold proof revisits that association under a new reign, the Royal Mint having returned to Churchill repeatedly as one of the few non-royal figures granted repeated commemorative status on UK coinage.
The .9167 fineness is standard crown gold, the same alloy specification used by the Royal Mint for sovereign coinage since 1817.
