The Duchess of Hamilton was one of the London Midland and Scottish Railway's streamlined Coronation Class locomotives, built at Crewe in 1938 and named for the Duchess of Hamilton — wife of the 13th Duke. Shortly after construction she was shipped to the United States for the 1939 New York World's Fair, where she ran as a stand-in for the more famous Coronation Scot, swapping identity plates with that locomotive for the tour. War broke out before she could return; she spent the duration stored in Jeffersonville, Indiana, finally repatriated in 1942.
She survives today in the National Railway Museum, York — one of only three Coronation Class locomotives still in existence.
