Issued as part of the Royal Mint's broader push into themed collector silver, this piece draws on the Arthurian tradition that has been politically useful to British monarchs since at least the 12th century — Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae providing the template that successive English kings, including Edward I, weaponized to legitimize territorial ambitions over Wales and Scotland. The timing under Charles III is incidental, but not without irony: a newly crowned king invoking a mythological one.
