Pitcairn Islands coinage is issued under British authority but has no practical circulation function — the island's population has hovered around 40 to 50 people for decades, and the economy runs almost entirely on the sale of stamps and collector coins to foreign buyers. This piece exists purely as a numismatic product. Beatrix Potter's Jemima Puddle-Duck first appeared in 1908, the seventh of her original Peter Rabbit series books, written partly on the Hill Top farm in the Lake District where Potter had observed her own farmyard ducks.
