Beschrijving keerzijde The central silver inner circle depicts a detailed side-profile illustration of the GWR 4-6-0 steam locomotive 'King Edward II', one of the celebrated King Class engines of the Great Western Railway, shown in motion with decorative linework evoking speed and mechanical power. The gold-plated outer ring carries the inscription GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY along the upper arc. The denomination TWO POUNDS is inscribed along the lower arc of the outer ring. The contrasting bimetallic finish accentuates the locomotive motif against the polished proof field.

Aanvullende informatie

The Great Western Railway's "King" class locomotives were introduced in 1927, designed by Charles Collett as the most powerful express passenger engines the GWR had yet built. "King Edward II" — No. 6023 — had a more dramatic post-service life than most: withdrawn in 1962, it sat derelict at Barry scrapyard in South Wales for over two decades before preservation volunteers rescued it for eventual restoration. The Isle of Man has issued commemorative two-pound pieces under royal cipher since Charles III's accession in 2022, with this GWR entry part of a broader transport heritage series.
