| 背面描述 | The inner disc depicts a dramatic scene of the Dunkirk evacuation, showing a flotilla of small civilian vessels crowded with soldiers making their way across turbulent seas, with a larger warship visible in the background through smoke or haze. The composition conveys the urgency and scale of Operation Dynamo, evoking the period from 26 May to 4 June 1940. The outer ring bears the famous Churchillian quotation WE SHALL FIGHT ON THE SEAS AND OCEANS, with the flanking dates 16TH MAY 1940 and 4TH JUNE 1940 and the inscription DUNKIRK 85 marking the 85th anniversary of the evacuation. |

Dunkirk's numismatic commemoration is well-trodden ground, but the Jersey connection is legitimate: the island fell under German occupation just days after the evacuation concluded in June 1940, making it among the last British-administered territories to witness the retreat before being cut off entirely. Churchill's "fight on the seas and oceans" phrase, drawn from the 4 June 1940 speech delivered to a Commons that had not yet been told the full scale of the losses, was as much a rallying cry for what had just been abandoned as for what lay ahead.
