| Reverse description | Right-facing laureate and draped bust of King Charles II, adapted from the celebrated seventeenth-century portrait effigy originally engraved by John Roettier for the Restoration-era silver coinage. The king is depicted wearing a laurel wreath interwoven with feathers, with long flowing curled hair cascading over his shoulders in the Baroque fashion of the period. The surrounding legend CAROLVS · II · DEI · GRATIA arcs around the upper field in the archaic Latin orthography characteristic of Stuart-period coinage. The inner border features a distinctive toothed or graining pattern reminiscent of the original Roettier dies, and the entire composition is struck to proof standard with sharp, contrasting relief against a deeply mirrored field. |
