The surrounding legend CAROLVS · II · DEI · GRATIA arcs around the upper field in the archaic Latin orthography characteristic of Stuart-period coinage. The inner border features a distinctive toothed or graining pattern reminiscent of the original Roettier dies, and the entire composition is struck to proof standard with sharp, contrasting relief against a deeply mirrored field. |
