The Bull of Clarence is one of the ten heraldic beasts drawn from the Queen's Beasts series, itself derived from the ten figures that flanked the young Queen Elizabeth II at her 1953 coronation at Westminster Abbey. This 2023 issue reframes that Tudor-era imagery under a new reign — the first time the series has been reissued under Charles III — making it a transitional piece in Royal Mint heraldic coinage rather than a straightforward continuation.
The Clarence connection runs through Edward IV, whose personal badge the bull was, entering the royal heraldic inventory through the Dukedom of Clarence in the fifteenth century.
