Within this outer border, the merchant's name PAUL STEINBOCK arcs across the upper half and SANDOW across the lower half, both legends separated by the inner pearl circle. A concentric ring of raised beads frames the central field, within which the large numeral '2' appears in bold raised relief. A circular hole is punched through the centre of the numeral, a characteristic feature of this Kleingeldersatzmarke series. |

Paul Steinbock's Sandow notgeld issues emerged from the acute small-change famine that gripped Germany after 1914, when hoarding stripped copper and bronze coinage from circulation almost overnight. Municipal and private issuers across the country filled the gap with zinc, iron, and aluminum pieces that the Reichsbank tolerated rather than sanctioned. The Hasselmann reference places this firmly within the documented private emergency coinage of Lower Silesia.
