Aversbeschreibung Three heraldic shields arranged in the field, bearing respectively an eagle, swan necks, and an ibex — the combined arms of the Bishopric of Chur and the Flugi von Aspermont family. The numeral 2 appears in the field alongside a rose and a six-pointed star as decorative elements. The design is characteristic of small hammered billon coinage of the period, with an irregular flan and no surrounding legend. All devices are rendered in low relief typical of mid-seventeenth-century Swiss ecclesiastical small change.

Reversbeschreibung The reverse is entirely blank, left unadorned as was customary for the smallest denominations of hammered billon coinage issued by the Bishopric of Chur during this period. The flan surface shows natural irregularities and patination consistent with the crude striking technique employed. No legend, device, or decorative element is present.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Johann VI Flugi von Aspermont governed the Bishopric of Chur through some of the most turbulent decades the Graubünden had seen — the Thirty Years' War cut across the region's fragile confessional and political alliances, and the Frastenz and Calven affairs had long left the local nobility fractured. Chur's bishops wielded temporal authority over their territory but operated under constant pressure from the Graubünden's Three Leagues, which jealously guarded cantonal sovereignty against episcopal encroachment.

These billon pfennigs represent the lowest denomination the bishopric produced, struck in debased silver barely distinguishable from copper. The HMZ 1#2-431c reference covers the full span of Johann's episcopate, meaning die attribution to a specific year within 1636–1661 is generally not possible.
