Issued in 1918 by Wilhelm Habermeier, a private merchant or business in Crailsheim, this is a piece of German wartime Notgeld — emergency coinage produced locally when the imperial government's metal requisitions stripped circulation of copper and nickel. Iron was the compromise material of necessity, cheap and workable but prone to corrosion, which accounts for the difficulty in finding clean survivors from this class of issue.
