Obverse description The obverse features the crowned Saxon arms — a quartered shield bearing alternating barry wavy and barry plain fields with a rampant lion in the centre — enclosed within an ornamental wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The ducal crown surmounts the shield, and the mint mark 'B' (Berlin Mint) appears below in the exergue. The circular legend reads 'HERZOGTH. S. COB.-GOTHA' flanking the upper portion of the design, with the date following below the shield.
