| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central shield bearing the quartered arms of ducal Saxony, featuring alternating barry and rautenkranz (rue crown) divisions in the traditional Ernestine heraldic style. The escutcheon is rendered in fine relief with detailed crosshatching to indicate the tinctures. Arching above the shield along the upper rim is the abbreviated legend reading S.W.U.E., standing for Sachsen-Weimar und Eisenach. The field is otherwise plain, with no additional ornamental devices. |

Charles August ruled Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach during one of the most turbulent reorganizations of German territorial politics — the Napoleonic dismemberment of the Holy Roman Empire, which formally dissolved in 1806. That same year, Napoleon pressured the minor German states into the Confederation of the Rhine, and Charles August, despite his Weimar court's famous association with Goethe and Schiller, had little choice but to join. The copper small denominations struck across this window reflect a duchy scrambling to maintain administrative continuity through abrupt constitutional change.
