| Additional information |
Zwiesel is a small glassworking town in the Bavarian Forest, and its 1917 emergency coinage was a direct consequence of wartime metal requisitioning that stripped German municipalities of their copper and nickel supplies. Cities of this size rarely issued more than a handful of denominations, and Zwiesel's notgeld series is correspondingly tight. The zinc composition reflects the Reich's strict material controls rather than any local choice — municipalities took what the central authorities left them.
