Bayrische Schuhfabriken A.-G. was one of several Bavarian manufacturers that issued private iron notgeld tokens during the acute small-change shortages of the early Weimar period, when official coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. These factory-issued pieces functioned as internal currency — redeemable at company canteens or stores — and circulated almost exclusively within the issuing firm's own workforce.
