| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned Hessian lion rampant within an oval shield, rendered in high relief. The shield is flanked on either side by decorative palm or laurel branches, forming a cartouche-like surround. Above the shield, a large electoral crown surmounts the composition. The initials H and D, standing for Hessen-Darmstadt, appear to the upper left and right of the crown respectively, serving as the sole legend on this face. |
