| Opmerkingen |
The Konsumverein für Magdeburg und Umgebung was a registered consumer cooperative — the "e.G.m.b.H." designation confirms limited liability status under German cooperative law. These cardboard tokens were internal scrip, issued so members could make small purchases at cooperative shops without relying on official Pfennig coinage, which was chronically scarce in German retail circulation during the early twentieth century, particularly around and after the First World War.
Cooperative scrip of this type was never legal tender and circulated only within the issuing society's network. Most were discarded once redeemed, which is why even minor denominations in intact condition attract collector interest today.
