Aanvullende informatie

Frederick I had crowned himself King in Prussia just two years before this coin was struck — a carefully engineered political maneuver requiring the blessing of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I, secured in exchange for Prussian military support against Louis XIV. The new royal title demanded new coinage, and the pfennig denominations were among the first retooled to reflect the upgraded dignity of the issuer.

The billon content at this weight is barely measurable in silver terms. Contemporary forgers rarely bothered.
