Beschrijving voorzijde Plain field enclosed by a continuous raised pearl border running parallel to the rim. The issuer's initials 'R & P' are boldly rendered in raised serif capital letters at center, the ampersand slightly smaller and set between the two principal letters. The design is intentionally minimal, the initials serving as the sole identifying device in the field.

Aanvullende informatie

Erfurt's notgeld coinage emerged from the acute metal shortages of World War I, when the imperial government progressively withdrew copper and nickel from circulation for munitions production. Municipal authorities across Germany filled the gap with locally issued emergency money, and Erfurt was among hundreds of cities that struck small-denomination pieces to keep everyday commerce moving. The nickel-plated zinc construction is itself a record of wartime material constraints — a base metal dressed up to approximate the coins it was replacing.
