Alexanderwerk A. von der Nahmer A.G. was a Berlin-based machinery manufacturer — best known for producing meat grinders and industrial food processing equipment — that issued notgeld tokens during the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany in the early 1920s. Firms of this type routinely deputized their own cashiers' offices as de facto currency issuers, paying workers in proprietary pfennig pieces redeemable only at company canteens or stores. Zinc was the practical choice: cheap, available, and unambiguous in its temporariness.
