Additional information

MAN issued these zinc tokens during the First World War, when the German imperial government requisitioned copper and other base metals for munitions production, leaving municipalities and private employers scrambling to produce substitute small change. Factory-issued Notgeld of this type circulated internally among workers, redeemable at company canteens or pay offices — a closed monetary loop that kept production lines moving when the Reichsbank couldn't supply enough coin.
