| Obverse description | Typeset letterpress Gutschein on cream-coloured paper stock, entirely unadorned by vignette or ornamental underprint. At centre, the denomination is rendered in two lines: a large ornate numeral '2' in decorative script followed by the abbreviation 'Pfg.' in bold serif type, with the issuing authority 'Stadthauptkasse / Waldenburg Schl.' set in heavy blackletter below. The header legend 'Gutschein über' appears in roman type across the top. |

Waldenburg — now Wałbrzych in southwestern Poland — was a coal-mining town whose municipal treasury issued small-denomination Notgeld during the acute coin shortages of the First World War period. The Stadthauptkasse, the city's main cashier's office, rather than a private bank or commercial house, was the issuing authority here, which placed direct fiscal responsibility on the municipal administration.
At 2 Pfennig, this is about as low as German emergency money gets. Notes at this denomination were issued purely to substitute for coins that had vanished from circulation as metal was diverted to war production.
