Peru's 1855 coinage patterns represent the transitional moment when the new republic was standardizing its monetary system following decades of colonial and early independence-era chaos. The Lima Mint struck several denominations as patterns that year to test designs and specifications before committing to full production runs. Most were never approved for circulation.
