Chile's fiscal situation in the 1890s was chaotic enough that the government resorted to overprinting existing stock rather than commissioning fresh plates — this note is a direct product of that expedient. The 2 Pesos value was stamped over the earlier P#12 printing, repurposing banknote stock that would otherwise have been retired or destroyed during the monetary turbulence following the 1891 Civil War and its aftermath.
ABNC-printed Chilean notes of this overprint series are frequently found with uneven ink coverage on the stamped value, a known characteristic of the overprint application rather than damage in circulation.
