| Obverse description | Left-facing portrait bust of Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges occupying the central field, rendered in low relief with fine sculptural detail. The legend REPUBLICA ARGENTINA curves along the upper periphery, while the commemorative dates 1899 and 1999 flanking the inscription JORGE LUIS BORGES arc along the lower periphery, marking the centenary of his birth. Two raised dots serve as decorative separators on either side of the lower legend. The portrait is unadorned and naturalistic, consistent with the modernist aesthetic associated with late 20th-century Argentine coinage. |
